Is OET Easier Than IELTS ?

OET- THE OCCUPATIONAL ENGLISH TEST, it is related to healthcare sectors and for the professionals who wish to register and practice in an English speaking environment. In short, speaking and writing made easy for nurses.

IELTS- THE INTERNATIONAL ENGLISH LANGUAGE TESTING SYSTEM. It is the most popular English language proficiency test for higher education and global migration. It is for the students who wish to study abroad or for the business professionals who have a desire to settle overseas.

COMPARISION

Both OET and IELTS are used to assess the English language proficiency of a candidate.

OET- it is related to healthcare professional services. Basically under OET comes 12 different professions like medicine, radiography, dieticians, nurses etc. it is widely accepted by nurses and midwives.

IELTS- A test in which a assess language skill in an academic and general context. It is accepted as evidence of English proficiency by 10,000 institutions. Many professional registration bodies and employers rely on IELTS as evidence of English language proficiency.

OUR OPINION-we find OET easier than IELTS as it is related to the healthcare sector and if one has been working or has perfect knowledge of his /her profession can easily beat this.

OET test real communication scenarios candidates will meet in the healthcare workplace, whereas other tests assess English Language Skills using, everyday scenarios.

OET is recommended by past test takers because preparation and test materials reflect real healthcare scenarios loading to increase confidence on Test day.

SIMILARITIES

There are many similarities between the two tests:

  • Four OET & IELTS each skill have – reading, writing, listening and speaking.
  • A graded score is allotted for both tests.
  • Assessment of English language proficiency.
  • Both are mainly opted to settle or study overseas.
  • Besides these similarities, there are certain differences too.

IELTS: There are two versions of the tests- academic and general.

The listening and speaking section is same but the academic reading is more geared to higher education than general reading.

OET – It offers 12different versions like a dentist, dieticians, radiography, nursing etc. speaking and writing is professionally oriented. It is tailored according to the profession which is being chosen by the person.

IELTS- it requires ample of a practice of vocabulary, writing reports and essays, advanced level of grammar.

OET- the vocabulary in this is related to health care issues. It requires terminology of hospital and clinical, medical texts, healthcare related letters at an advanced level.

IELTS is marked on band score like 1-9

OET is graded A TO E.

There are over 100 tests centres in over 140 countries of IELTS.

There are over 80 test venues in 35 countries of OET.

CONCLUSION:

Our finding is that OET is easier than IELTS. There is one thing that if anyone fails a single section in OET exam he/she can reapply for that section again but in IELTS it is not possible to reapply.
